About me
Hi, I’m Rosa!
I’m a bilingual Instructional Designer and eLearning Developer striving to make every learning experience equally challenging and fun for the learners.
I design and develop performance-driven scenarios aimed at solving real problems.
I usually start my process with action mapping to uncover what the users need to do in order to be sucessful. Then I proceed with storyboarding, realistic visual mockups and finally development. It’s an iterative process which includes a lot of user testing and feedback.
I use tools such as Articulate 360, the Adobe Suite, Canva, Google Workspace and many more.
I consider myself successful when the learner is successful, which means the eLearning experience has brought real improvement and behavioral changes that help people be more comfortable in their roles day after day. In order to achieve long-term information retention, the course needs to be instructive, but also fun.
My Journey to Instructional Design
I have always been in love with learning and understanding how people learn and make decisions.
I hold a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA), and I have been working in marketing and as a teacher for many years. One day, while I was learning about UX Design and UX Writing (I’m always learning about something new), I found out there is a field in education where I can use logic, psychology, learning theory, creativity and all of my favorite skills: Instructional Design!
I realized that I can use most of the knowledge I developed over the years to create great elearning experiences. Some examples are consumer psychology, which helps get into the minds of the learner in order to create more engaging scenarios, as well as the learning theories I have been using in years of teaching (think Gagne’s 9 events of instruction or needs analysis) and a lot of the teachings from UX Design (storyboarding, visual design and more).
I made learning about ID a priority. I learnt the theories first and then how to develop projects using Articulate Storyline 360 and make interactions work. It has been a stimulating journey so far.
I chose Instructional Design because it lets me use a mix of the favorite parts of everything I know, plus it challenges me to learn something new everyday.
I try to be the best Instructional Designer and eLearning Developer as I can by continuously sharpening my critical thinking, problem solving, storytelling, visual design and programming skills through reading, trying out new projects, participating in the ID community and always asking for feedback.
I find Instructional Design to be a flexible career which is also extremely rewarding. I love helping people learn while having fun (no more boring info dump!) and respecting their different learning styles and preferences. When the learners are successful so am I.
